Prevention of cervical cancer

Colposcopy and biopsy

Colposcopy is the visualization of the cervix, i.e. colposcopic examination of the cervix;

Biopsy involves taking a small piece of tissue from the cervix for examination under a microscope.

These manipulations are indicated in cases where certain changes or atypical cells are detected during screening;

Women who have biopsied low-grade cellular abnormalities, but whose cervix macroscopically appears normal, are scheduled for repeat colposcopy by gynecologic surveillance.
